These are the most common Chinese characters, based on corpus analysis. The characters and most of the usage text come from the following site: http://www.zein.se/patrick/3000char.html. Where there is sound available, it was recorded from http://www.chinaorb.com/.
Click the app to select it, and you can use the following keyboard shortcuts:
Click the settings button. Choose a set of characters in the characters to study combobox. Choose whether you want to see the Traditional or Simplified versions of the characters. Then click return to flashcards to test yourself on your selected characters.
The default setting is to show the Chinese character and have you come up with the pinyin and definition. You can also click settings and choose to display the definition, pinyin, or usage as well.
TIP: If the character displayed has a drop shadow, the simplified and traditional forms of the character are different. Click the character to toggle between the two forms.
Click save to save a character for later review. When you have saved a few characters, click settings and then choose saved items in the display order combobox. When you return to flashcards, your saved characters will be ready for review.
To clear the saved items, click settings and then click clear saved items, or choose a different set of characters. Unfortunately, you cannot save items across multiple character sets.
